How to convert AVIF to JPG
- Choose your files. Add AVIF images. You can select up to 20 files per batch, within the displayed size limits.
- Set the result. JPG is already selected. Adjust dimensions and, for JPG, WebP or AVIF, quality. Check the transparency background where available.
- Convert and download. Download each result or the batch ZIP. Compare file size and appearance before replacing any original.
JPG output: Compact photos. Transparent areas are filled with the selected background.

Where AVIF files come from
AVIF is a newer image format based on the AV1 video codec. Websites and image services use it because it can keep photos small at good quality, so pictures you save from the web increasingly arrive as .avif files. Current browsers display them, but plenty of desktop software, email workflows, office suites and photo kiosks do not yet open them. A JPG copy solves that.
What changes when AVIF becomes JPG
AVIF can carry HDR brightness and wide color gamuts. JPG output here is a standard 8-bit image, so very bright highlights and saturated colors are mapped into the normal range and may look a little flatter. Transparent pixels, which AVIF supports, are filled with your chosen background color. Animated AVIF sequences become one still frame, and source metadata is not copied.
Quality and file size expectations
AVIF is one of the most efficient formats available, so the JPG will usually be noticeably larger than the AVIF for the same look. That is normal and not a sign that anything went wrong. Quality 85 to 90 keeps photos clean. If the JPG is bigger than you want, reduce its longest side, or set a maximum size in KB on the image compressor.
Built-in ways to open and convert AVIF
Recent macOS versions can open AVIF in Preview, where File > Export with Format set to JPEG saves a copy. On Windows 11, AVIF viewing typically depends on the free AV1 Video Extension from the Microsoft Store; once installed, Photos or Paint may be able to open the file and save it in another format. Support differs between versions, so check yours.
How ConvitAll converts AVIF to JPG
Your browser's image decoder handles the AVIF where it can. If it cannot, ConvitAll loads a local AVIF decoder into the page instead. Either way the image is drawn and encoded to JPG in your tab, then offered as a download or part of a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded and the service is free.
Questions and answers
Why will my AVIF image not open in my photo editor?
AVIF is still new to a lot of desktop software. Browsers added support first, while many editors, office tools and older operating systems have not. Converting a copy to JPG gives you a format almost every program has supported for decades.
Is my AVIF converted to HDR JPG?
No. The output is a standard JPG without HDR data or a wide-gamut color profile. Highlights and very saturated colors are brought into the normal range, which can look slightly different from the AVIF on an HDR-capable display.
Why is the JPG bigger than the original AVIF?
AVIF compresses photos more efficiently than JPG, so matching its appearance takes more bytes in JPG. A larger result at quality 85 to 90 is expected. Lower the longest side or use a KB target if you need a smaller file.
Do I need to install an AVIF codec to use this converter?
No. If your browser cannot decode the AVIF itself, ConvitAll loads its own decoder into the page automatically. It runs locally, so nothing gets installed on your system and the image is not sent anywhere.
