How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Choose your files. Add HEIC images. You can select up to 20 files per batch, within the displayed size limits.
  2. Set the result. JPG is already selected. Adjust dimensions and, for JPG, WebP or AVIF, quality. Check the transparency background where available.
  3. Convert and download. Download each result or the batch ZIP. Compare file size and appearance before replacing any original.

JPG output: Compact photos. Transparent areas are filled with the selected background.

Why iPhone photos arrive as HEIC

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default when the camera is set to High Efficiency. HEIC stores a photo in roughly half the space a comparable JPEG needs, which is great for your iCloud storage but awkward everywhere else. Windows PCs without the right extension, many job and government upload forms, older photo editors and some print services still reject it.

Converting a copy to JPG fixes that mismatch. JPG is the format nearly every website, email client and photo kiosk accepts, so it is the right choice when you simply need the picture to open on the other end.

What the JPG keeps and what it leaves behind

You get the primary still image at full color. A Live Photo's short video clip, any extra images stored in the HEIC container and HDR brightness information are not carried into the JPG. Camera details such as the date, lens and GPS location are not copied either, which is handy when you want to share a picture without revealing where it was taken.

Some recent iPhone Pro models can capture 48-megapixel photos. With Automatic size selected, ConvitAll fits any photo larger than 32 megapixels within that limit while keeping its proportions; a standard 12-megapixel shot keeps its original dimensions.

Choosing a JPG quality setting

The slider starts at 90, which keeps faces and fine textures clean. Because HEIC compresses more efficiently than JPG, the converted file is often somewhat larger than the original at that setting. If you need smaller files, try 80 to 85, or pick a longest side such as 1,920 pixels under Image size. For a strict upload limit, the image compressor can aim for a maximum size in KB instead.

Doing it with built-in tools instead

On iPhone, Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible makes future photos save as JPG, and the Transfer to Mac or PC option set to Automatic converts photos when you copy them to a computer (it sits under Settings > Photos, or Settings > Apps > Photos on newer iOS). On a Mac, open the photo in Preview and use File > Export with JPEG as the format, or right-click it in Finder and choose Quick Actions > Convert Image. On Windows, the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store (and sometimes the HEVC Video Extensions) let Photos and Paint open HEIC so you can save a JPG copy. Menu names vary by version.

Before converting your HEIC photo

Should I choose JPG or PNG?

JPG is useful for sharing photos and upload forms that require JPEG. Its quality setting trades detail for file size. Use HEIC to PNG when your editor requires PNG.

Are Live Photos and camera metadata preserved?

No. This converts the primary still image. Live Photo video, extra images, GPS, camera metadata and HDR information are not carried over. Keep your original HEIC if you need these features.

Why will my photo not open?

Select the actual downloaded HEIC or HEIF file, rather than a cloud placeholder. Try one photo at a time and close other memory-heavy tabs. Some HEIC variants may not decode; changing the output format cannot repair an unreadable source.

Can I convert several iPhone photos privately?

Yes. Add up to 20 files within the displayed limits and download individual results or a ZIP. File contents stay on your device. The first HEIC conversion loads a local decoder and may take longer. Read the iPhone photo conversion guide.

Questions and answers

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce photo quality?

JPG adds a layer of lossy compression, so a tiny amount of detail is always traded for compatibility. At quality 85 to 90 the difference is very hard to see on a normal screen. Keep your original HEIC if you may want to edit or print the photo later.

Will the JPG still show where the photo was taken?

No. ConvitAll writes a fresh JPG without the GPS position, camera model or other EXIF fields from the HEIC. If you need the location or capture date preserved for a photo library, keep the original file or use your phone’s own export options instead.

How many iPhone photos can I convert at once?

Add up to 20 HEIC files per batch, each up to 100 MB and 250 MB combined. After converting, download them one by one or as a single ZIP. For a larger camera roll, run several batches in a row; there is no daily limit and no account to create.

Why does the first HEIC conversion take a few seconds longer?

Most browsers cannot read HEIC natively, so ConvitAll loads a HEIC decoder into the page the first time you need it. That decoder then runs on your own processor. Later photos in the same session start faster because the decoder is already loaded.

My HEIC file will not open in the converter. What can I check?

Make sure you selected the real downloaded photo and not an iCloud placeholder that has not finished syncing. Try a single photo and close other heavy tabs to free memory. A few unusual HEIC variants may not decode at all.
