How to compress an image under a KB limit
- Choose your images. Add up to 20 supported files. Select JPG, WebP or AVIF output.
- Set the maximum file size. Enter a target such as 200 or 500 KB per image. Maximum quality is the starting point, and the tool tries lower settings down to 10%.
- Convert and check. Each result says whether it fits. When a target is missed, choose a smaller Image size, such as 1,280 pixels, and convert again.
Smaller files may lose fine detail. Keep your originals and check each download before using it. The tool tests up to eight quality settings; it does not guarantee the highest possible quality or an exact byte size. AVIF may take longer.

Built for upload limits
Job portals, exam and visa applications, school systems and marketplaces often say things like maximum 100 KB or under 200 KB. Instead of guessing a quality value, type that number into Maximum KB per image. ConvitAll encodes the image at your starting quality, checks the size and, if it is too big, tries lower qualities, up to eight attempts per image, down to a floor of 10. Each result then reports whether it fits the target and which quality was used.
Targets work with JPG, WebP and AVIF output. Your input can be any supported format, including PNG, HEIC and TIFF; the compressed copy is saved in the output format you choose.
Reaching 100 KB or 50 KB: resize first
Quality alone can only go so far. A full-resolution phone photo usually cannot reach 100 KB at a quality anyone would accept, because it has millions of pixels to describe. The compressor does not secretly shrink dimensions to hit a target, so choose a smaller Image size yourself. As a rough guide, Fit within 1,280 px is often enough for 200 KB, and Fit within 800 px for 100 KB or less. If a form also sets minimum dimensions, such as 600 × 600 for an ID photo, stay at or above those and adjust the target if needed.
How KB is counted
ConvitAll counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so a 100 KB target means 100,000 bytes, and 1 MB is entered as 1000. Windows File Explorer counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so it shows a slightly smaller number for the same file. If a portal is strict, aim a few percent under its stated maximum.
Transparent images and PNG
PNG is lossless, so it has no quality slider and no KB target here. To compress a transparent PNG to a size limit, choose WebP or AVIF, which keep transparency while using lossy compression. JPG fills transparent areas with the background color you set. Metadata such as GPS location is not copied into any compressed file.
Batch and private by design
The target applies to each image separately, so you can compress up to 20 photos to 200 KB each in one go and download them as a ZIP. All encoding happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and your originals stay as they were.
Choosing settings for an upload limit
How do I compress an image to 200 KB or 500 KB?
Choose JPG, WebP or AVIF and enter 200 or 500 under Maximum KB per image. The target applies to each file. Convert and check the result; if it exceeds the limit, reduce Image size and try again. For a decimal 1 MB limit, enter 1000 KB.
Can I keep the same width and height?
Select Keep original size under Image size, within the output limits of 32 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side. The tool lowers quality to try to meet the byte limit. It does not secretly reduce dimensions to reach the target, and some targets cannot be met.
Can I compress a transparent PNG?
Choose WebP or AVIF to keep transparency while using target-size compression. These outputs use lossy compression here. PNG output keeps decoded pixels but has no adjustable quality or target-KB search. JPG fills transparent areas with your chosen background.
Will this change my original?
No. ConvitAll creates a separate download on your device. Keep the original for later edits, and check text and faces in the result. See examples and compression tradeoffs.
Questions and answers
How do I compress a photo to under 100 KB?
Choose JPG, enter 100 under Maximum KB per image and set Image size to Fit within 800 px, or 1,280 px for a simple image. Convert and check that the result says it is within the target. If not, pick a smaller longest side and try again from the original.
Why did my image not reach the KB target?
At the selected dimensions, even quality 10 was larger than your limit. The compressor keeps your chosen width and height, so reduce Image size or raise the target. Very detailed or noisy photos need more bytes than smooth ones.
Can I compress a PNG and keep it as PNG?
Not with a KB target. PNG output is lossless and has no quality control here, so the only lever is reducing dimensions with the image resizer. To hit a specific size while keeping transparency, choose WebP or AVIF output instead.
Does the target apply to the whole batch or each file?
Each file. If you enter 200 KB and add ten photos, every photo is compressed to try to stay under 200 KB on its own. The ZIP containing all of them can therefore be larger than 200 KB.
Will compression change my photo dimensions?
Only if you choose a different Image size. With Keep original size or Automatic size, the compressor adjusts quality only. Automatic size does reduce photos over 32 megapixels to fit the output limit, but it will not shrink an ordinary photo to meet a KB target.
