How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Choose your files. Add WebP images. You can select up to 20 files per batch, within the displayed size limits.
  2. Set the result. PNG is already selected. Adjust dimensions and, for JPG, WebP or AVIF, quality. Check the transparency background where available.
  3. Convert and download. Download each result or the batch ZIP. Compare file size and appearance before replacing any original.

PNG output: Lossless & transparent. Transparency can be preserved when the source contains it.

When to choose PNG for a WebP image

PNG is the go-to output when the WebP is a graphic rather than a photo: a logo with a cut-out background, an icon, a sticker, a diagram or a UI screenshot. Nearly every editor, slide tool and document app opens PNG, and it supports full alpha transparency, so the shape keeps its clean edges when you place it over another background.

It is also a sensible choice when you will keep editing the image, since saving a PNG again and again never adds fresh compression damage.

What carries over from the WebP

Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are kept exactly as they were decoded. If the WebP was saved with lossy compression, any blur or blockiness already in it stays; PNG preserves what is there but cannot rebuild lost detail. Animated WebP files become a single still image. Metadata and embedded color profiles are not written to the PNG.

Why the PNG may be several times bigger

Lossy WebP throws away information to stay small, while PNG stores every pixel. For a flat logo or screenshot the difference can be modest. For a photograph saved as WebP, the PNG can easily be several times larger. If you are converting photos only so another app will open them, WebP to JPG will give you a much smaller file. To shrink a PNG, reduce its longest side under Image size; PNG output has no quality slider.

Without an online tool

Windows 11 Paint can open WebP; choose File > Save as > PNG picture. On a Mac, open the WebP in Preview, then File > Export and set Format to PNG. These routes work one file at a time, and the exact wording of menus depends on the version you have.

How ConvitAll does the conversion

The browser's own decoder reads the WebP, with a bundled local decoder as a fallback for browsers that need it. The pixels are drawn on a canvas in your tab and exported as PNG with the alpha channel intact. Nothing is sent to a server, you do not need an account, and a ZIP download collects the whole batch.

Questions and answers

Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG supports full alpha transparency, so transparent and partly transparent pixels from the WebP are saved as they were decoded. There is no background color to choose for this conversion because nothing needs filling in.

Will converting WebP to PNG improve image quality?

No. PNG stops further loss, but it cannot recover detail the WebP encoder discarded. Edges that look soft or blocky in the WebP will look the same in the PNG. Converting is about compatibility and safe re-editing, not sharpening.

Can I turn a whole folder of WebP files into PNGs?

Select up to 20 WebP files in one go, each up to 100 MB and 250 MB in total, and download the results as a ZIP. For a bigger folder, convert it in several batches. No sign-up is needed and the files never leave your computer.

Is an animated WebP converted to an animated PNG?

No. ConvitAll exports one still frame as a standard PNG. Animated PNG output is not supported, and animation is not preserved for any output format. Keep the original WebP if you need the motion.
