How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. Choose your files. Add JPG images. You can select up to 20 files per batch, within the displayed size limits.
  2. Set the result. PNG is already selected. Adjust dimensions and, for JPG, WebP or AVIF, quality. Check the transparency background where available.
  3. Convert and download. Download each result or the batch ZIP. Compare file size and appearance before replacing any original.

PNG output: Lossless & transparent. Transparency can be preserved when the source contains it.

Reasons people convert JPG to PNG

The most common reason is a requirement: a design tool, a game engine, a printing template or an upload form asks for PNG. The second is editing. Each time you save a JPG it is compressed again and can lose a little more detail, whereas a PNG can be opened and saved many times without any further loss. Converting once at the start of an editing session protects the image from that gradual wear.

What PNG can and cannot do for a JPG

PNG stores the decoded JPG pixels exactly, so nothing more is lost. It does not undo compression that already happened: blockiness, smearing or noise in the JPG stays in the PNG. It also does not remove the background. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG starts out fully opaque; you would need an editor to cut out the subject afterwards. EXIF data such as camera settings and location is not copied to the new file.

Expect a larger file

Photos compress far better as JPG than as PNG, so a converted photo is often several times larger. A 12-megapixel camera photo as PNG can run into many megabytes. If that is a problem, reduce the longest side to the size you actually need, for example 1,920 pixels for screens. PNG output has no quality slider in this tool.

Built-in ways to save a JPG as PNG

Windows: open the JPG in Paint and use File > Save as > PNG picture. Mac: open it in Preview, choose File > Export and set Format to PNG, or select several files in Finder and use Quick Actions > Convert Image. Labels can differ slightly by version.

Using ConvitAll for JPG to PNG

Choose up to 20 JPG files, keep PNG as the output and convert. Each photo is decoded and saved as PNG inside your browser, and orientation from the camera is applied so portrait shots stay upright. Download the files singly or as one ZIP archive; your originals remain untouched.

Questions and answers

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded JPG, including any compression artifacts. What it does is stop further loss, so later edits and saves will not degrade the image the way repeated JPG saves can.

Will JPG to PNG remove the white background?

No. JPG images have no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. Removing it requires a background-removal or editing tool. After you have a cut-out, saving it as PNG or WebP keeps the transparent areas.

Why did my file get so much bigger as a PNG?

JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photos, while PNG is lossless. Fine photographic texture is expensive to store without loss, so the PNG often grows several times over. Shrink the dimensions if you need a lighter file, or keep the JPG for sharing.

Are my photos rotated correctly after conversion?

Yes. Phones often store rotation as a tag instead of turning the pixels. ConvitAll applies that orientation while decoding, so the PNG appears the right way up even though the original orientation tag itself is not copied.
